On this day in 1873, Levi Strauss patented the first blue jeans, denim work pants reinforced with metal rivets. Soon everyone was sporting Levi’s signature bone-washed 501 Benjamin Button-Fly jeans.
On this day in 1927, aviator Charles Lindbergh began his historic first trans-Atlantic solo flight, after being briefly detained at a TSA checkpoint for smuggling 40 kilos of cocaine.
On this day in 1932, Amelia Earhardt began her historic flight across the Atlantic, aiming to set a new record for trans-Atlantic singing of “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.”
