On this day in 1994, after being charged with murdering his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and her friend, football star O.J. Simpson led police on the “Low-Speed Chase of the Century” en route to his acquittal in the “Trial of the Century.”

On this day in 1885, the dismantled Statue of Liberty arrived in New York City from France. Erection of the grand statue was delayed however, because the assembly instructions were in French.
